If you’re looking for a way to quickly restore moisture to your hair without washing and deep conditioning, you should try baggying your hair.
What is Baggying?
Baggying simply means to apply a moisturizer to your hair, place a plastic processing cap over on your head and leave it on for a few hours. You will notice the inside of the cap forming moisture droplets. These droplets add additional moisture to your hair. It’s much like steaming your hair, except you’re accomplishing this mid-week vs. wash day. It’s a great way to boost moisture to your hair throughout the week.
Methods for Baggying Relaxed Hair
You can baggy your ends or you can baggy your entire head. Both have the same end result – increased hydration – except one method targets the ends of your hair and the other targets the entire head. You can baggy your hair for a few hours in the evening or for several hours overnight. The longer you keep the plastic cap on your head, the more moisture that will develop inside the cap. By morning, your hair will be very damp if you choose to keep the plastic cap on throughout the night. If you’re not a fan of having damp hair by morning, then you should definitely keep your baggying to a minimum of one to two hours.
Baggying Relaxed Hair
Apply moisturizer to your hair. You can lightly mist your hair with water, a hydrating mist or use a cream moisturizer. Overly saturating your hair at the step will lead to soaking wet hair if you baggy overnight. The baggy method will enhance the moisture in your hair through condensation so no need to over apply product.
- Mist Recommendations: Bee Mine Juicy, Oyin J&B or diluted SCurl with water (50:50 ratio).
- Cream Moisturizer Recommendations: Bee Mine Luscious or Aubrey Organics While Camellia

Place plastic cap over the length of your hair with making sure the length of the pony is tucked nicely inside the plastic cap.

You then twirl the plastic cap around to make a bun with tucking the the end of the plastic cap underneath the bottom of the bun to secure. I usually stop here but if you need a more secure fit, you can place a ponytail holder on top of the plastic cap.

You can leave the baggy on your hair for a few hours or overnight. Come morning, simply seal with an oil of choice and you’re done.
Baggying Your Entire Head
If you would like to baggy your entire head, just follow the same steps listed above! Don’t forget to seal your hair the next morning.

Great post. Going to try this.
TY Yada!
I know this comment is super old but your hair will not be frizzy after you baggy especially if you omit the water portion and just baggy with a moisturizer creme.
Thank you so much for sharing. I’ll keep that tip in mind if I start baggying again.
How do you baggy without frizz? After a failed saran wrap, I’m afraid that my hair will revert and become frizzy.
I have a Texturizer can I do this a few hours before bed or do I leave it on over night
Hi Wanda, have you given it a try yet and what were your results? I know you posted this comment many days ago. Sorry for the delay. I took time away from my blog to deal with the loss of my husband. But, I’m now trying to get back in the swing of things.
