So yesterday while on lunch, I landed on an article that highlighted ways to lose weight without really trying. Some of the tips provided were, shall I say, stretching it a bit. Let me know what you think.[divider]
1) Sniff green apples, vanilla or peppermint when feeling hungry
Theory: Sweet scented items curb appetite. Upon sniffing, the brain is tricked into thinking you’ve indulged in a sweet treat.
2) Blackout your bedroom for total darkness throughout the night
Theory: The blue light that is emitted from electronic devices (tv, cell phone, computer, laptop, tablet, etc) creates the urge for late night / middle of the night snacking.
3) Use blue plates
Theory: We eat less where there is limited contrast between the color of our food and the color of our plate. Since few foods are naturally blue, blue plates creates a noticeable contrast, thereby reducing our appetite.
4) Use smaller plates
Theory: Bigger plates and bowls make portions look small and we load up on more servings than we should. Smaller plates make portions look bigger which tricks our brain in to thinking we’re eating more than what we really are.
5) Eat in front of a full length mirror
Theory: Awareness! The more aware we are with how much we’re gobbling down, the less we tend to eat.
6) Lower the temp while asleep
Theory: The body heats itself in moderately cool situation which in turns burns brown fat.
7) Take a multi-vitamin
Theory: A body that is balanced on nutrients will feel less temptation to over indulge.
8) Snag an end seat at parties & picnics
Theory: Higher calorie/carb foods are placed in the center for crowd sharing. Sitting on the end makes access to these foods a little harder.
9) Kick it up a notch — season food with spicey spices
Theory: Spices such as red pepper, black pepper, cayenne and spices of the like, rev up the metabolism. Spices with strong aromas, such as garlic, will force you to take smaller bites, so feeling full tends to come well before overeating.
10) Increase the number of male invites when coordinating get togethers involving food
Theory: Women eat less when in the company of men
11) Withdraw a certain amount of cash & leave all plastic at home
Theory: We over eat and over spend when paying with plastic. Cash keeps us aware of how much we’re spending (and eating). [divider]
While some of these methods may work, I’ll take my chances on healthy diet and exercise.
