This post is about wash day and the debuting of a new wig. First up, wash day. I am 33 weeks post relaxer and things went without incident! I even worked up enough nerve to debut FreeTress Equal Black Jack which is an invisible L part synthetic bob wig that is ready to wear with just a little of concealer on the part.
Detangled (Thursday night): I unraveled my braids and detangled really well. I detangled with fingers first before whipping out the wide tooth comb and double row detangler to remove the remaining shed hairs.
Pre-Poo (Friday night): I decided to do an overnight pre-poo to save time come wash day. I distributed Komaza Pona Hair & Scalp from root to tip. I then scalp massaged with a random KeraVada oil that’s lingering in my stash. I don’t even know the name of the oil but it’s loaded with Ayurvedic goodies. I layered the two products because I was due to clarify and chelate so it was very important that my hair was ready for whatever.
Cleanse (Saturday morning): I washed with Redken Cleansing Cream. I lathered and rinsed once which was sufficient to remove buildup. The Komaza Pona Hair & Scalp seems to exfoliate my scalp really well, thus I no longer deal product residue on my scalp.
Rinse Out Condition: Redken Cleansing Cream does not strip my hair to a point where it’s dry and tangly. It does, however, remove all traces of product. I applied Sally’s GVP Nexxus Humectress while in the shower and let it sit for 3 minutes before rinsing and shower detangling. This added moisture back to my hair so that it wouldn’t give me any issues – tangling or breakage – when applying my deep conditioner.
Deep Condition (Saturday afternoon): I deep conditioned with Silk Elements Kera Minerals under my wig while running errands. I have used Kera Minerals several times and so far, so good. I will definitely keep this in rotation a little longer. Great moisture and awesome slip.
Air Dry (Saturday afternoon/night): I applied my leave-ins (Pura Body Naturals MuruMuru Moisture Milk & sealed with oil) and air-dried with using the banding method. I first let my hair air dry to about 80% before applying the bands (cut up stockings) to accelerate the drying time. Fast forward a few hours, my hair still was not dry. What’s up with that! I let the bands stay on a little longer until I was about 95% dry. I then removed the bands and braided my hair for the week with the intent to protective style with wigs.
Change of heart (Sunday night): I finally wore my bob wig around a group of folks I know (church). While I have worn it many times, it was never around people I know. So yeah, I was feeling myself. 🙂
FreeTress Equal Black Jack is a cute little wig that doesn’t require much effort to make it look good. I didn’t even tweeze the part. Instead, I added a touch of concealer on the part to make it look a little more realisitic and that was it! Shedding is reasonable. I only lose a few strands here and there. It does not tangle or experience matting. It is an excellent wig for the summer since it short and lightweight.
I was planning to wear her this week but had a change of heart right before bed. I just needed a break from wigs so I unraveled my braids and called it a night.
Monday morning rolls around and I started thinking, what have I done. My hair was looking mighty underwhelming not to mention, frizzy, bushy and untamed. The pics are not showing the foolishness I see when I look in the mirror.
Although I’m having wig withdrawal, I will keep my hair in a bun for the remainder of the week. However, I assure you I will be returning to wigs next week.
-Fooling with my hair daily is not the business
-Beating my hair in to submission is exhausting
-My hair retains moisture far better while protective styling under wigs
-Sprays are too light; I need creamy products
-I’m too heavy-handed with products which forces me to wash again soon (booo!)
-My relaxed hair gets really tangly with daily manipulation
-My urge to comb is addicting
-Many more days of this foolishness will make me end my stretch like real quick!
How was your wash day?
