I recently revisited Hawaiian Silky 14 in 1 after reading so many positive reviews online. Several mentioned Hawaiian Silky allowed them to unlock (is that the right word?) dreads. Now, let’s be real. If Hawaiian Silky can remove dreads, it should stand up to the challenge on regular hair tangling and matting. Another hair enthusiast relied on Hawaiian Silky for the duration of her transition, citing it helped her manage varying textures. Lastly, another mentioned Hawaiian Silky is an awesome detangler. After reading a number of positive reviews, I purchased a bottle.
Moisturizing Natural Hair (New Growth)
I sprayed product directly onto my hair in some sections and sprayed product in my hand and massaged it in on the other sections to see which method worked best. Spraying directly from the bottle made my hair too saturated which left my hair feeling gummy and mushy. It took a few tries before figuring out just how much to use. Spraying product in my hand and then applying it to my hair worked best because it allowed me to control exactly how much product was being applied to my hair. However, with both methods, my new growth was soft, moisturized and manageable.
Moisturizing Relaxed Hair
Spraying product in my hand and applying it from root to tip was a miss at first because it didn’t offer hydration or slip. After a few tries, I figured out how to make it work. When the product is first applied to relaxed hair, the hair is too damp for immediate manipulation. However, once the dampness evaporates, magic happens and the hair is left feeling very soft and silky. The key here is to do one of two things, wait for the product to penetrate or use a very light application.
I have been on the quest to find a product that could soften my natural hair (new growth) and make it manageable and Hawaiian Silky did just that. I’m able to comb my new growth with ease which makes detangling a breeze.
[Update, May 2017] I went natural September 2016 and I’m still loving Hawaiian Silky 14 in 1. It’s an awesome moisturizer for spring and summer and potentially year-round depending on your climate. It keeps natural hair properly hydrated and leaves it looking shiny. Say goodbye to dull, dry natural hair!
