Your hair is? Relaxed
When and why did you start your healthy hair journey? My hair journey began in March of 2010 after I went to youtube in search of “Silk Wrap Tutorials”. Needless to say, during that particular search I stumbled across something even better—African American women that were growing THEIR God-given hair down to their waists. Instantly, my interest peaked and I decided to embark on a journey of my own. As far back as I can remember, I’ve always admired long-haired ladies and often fantasized of having “Pocahontas-Length” tresses of my own. Unfortunately, I had no idea that I was capable of producing that type of length without the help of weaves or “good hair” genetics. But after doing extensive research via youtube and LHCF (longhaircareforum.com) I soon learned that I actually COULD achieve waistlength-hair and beyond with the help of healthy hair practices…..from that moment on it was ON!
What is your current length / goal length? I’m currently grazing Bra-strap length, but my ultimate goal is to get to waist-length.
What is your regimen – wash day, daily, nightly? Currently my regimen is as follows:
On Wash Day:
-I Pre-poo with a cheapie V05 Conditioner, mixed with whatever oil I may have lying around the house; apply the mixture to my head in four sections, cover it with a plastic cap for about 20-30mins.
-I then wash my hair (still while in the same four sections) with a moisturizing shampoo, rinse and then apply my deep conditioner. Once that’s done I re-apply my plastic cap for another 20-30mins.
-Finally, I rinse out the DC while detangling under running water and towel dry my hair for about 10mins. After that’s done I apply my leave-ins and tie a silk scarf around my edges, then it’s time to airdry.
-I began by applying my DC to my scalp, and let it sit for 20-30mins.
-Then, I co-wash with any V05 “Moisture Milk” that I may have lying around.
-Do a final rinse while detangling under running water and apply my leave-in(s) and then I airdry.
-I wear my hair up in a bun, ensuring that I apply a little bit of the Beautiful Textures leave-in and a dab of oil to my ends.
-I section my hair into four parts; Spritz on a little water then moisturize with the Beautiful Textures leave-in and seal with Hot-Six Oil.
How often do you touch-up / trim / use heat? I touch-up every 16-18 weeks; Trim after every touch-up, and I usually give my self a “1-month” heat pass, but I really only use if I’m in the mood to do a flat-iron length check or if my stylist sits me under the blow-dryer for a silk wrap (This is usually done about every 2 Months-If that).
What’s your fave go-to style? My favorite go-to style would definitely be The BUN!
What do you love most and least about your hair? I definitely love the thickness and density of my hair. The least thing I love would have to be frizz that I tend to get around my edges, especially once I’ve exceeded 5 weeks post. I have yet to find a gel, scarf method, or serum that can keep my edges tamed for more than an hour after it’s applied.
Do you take any supplements or use growth-aides? How have they helped? I’ve used Njoy’s hair growth oil in the past, and it has definitely aided in thickening my hair up. Also, it’s done WONDERS in keeping my eczema flare-ups at bay. I highly recommend this oil to ANYONE!
What has helped you most in achieving and maintaining length? Definitely protective styling, and regular trims.
Name a hair product, accessory or tool you cannot be without? And why? I definitely can’t be without my wide-toothed shower comb. I utilize my comb to detangle under running water, as well as during my moisturizing and sealing sessions. It enables me to gently remove shed hair and tangles without causing too much hair loss.
