Your hair is? Natural
When and why did you start your healthy hair journey? I began my hair journey when my fiancé wanted to feel and see my natural hair. I wore it in back to back braid extensions with no breaks. In addition I got on Accutane a medication for my skin which listed hair loss as a side effect. I wanted to keep a closer eye on my hair so that I could catch signs of excessive hair loss early.
What is your goal length? My ultimate goal length is classic length so that I can rock bra strap braid outs.
What is your regimen – wash day, daily, nightly? Every other evening I seal with an oil like grape seed oil. When I re-set my hair I use water from a water bottle as my liquid and I seal with a creamy moisturizer such as Pura Body Naturals Murumuru Moisture Milk followed by an oil like avocado oil and a butter like straight murumuru butter to seal my ends. In the day time I take down styles or soften protective styles with a leave in like Oyin Hair Dew or an oil like olive oil. On wash days I pre-condition with Shea Moisture African Black Soap Purification Masque after sleeping over night in coconut oil. I then either use Ouidad Curl Co-wash or Crème of Nature Moisture Shine Shampoo to cleanse. In order to deep condition I use Bask Whiskey Repairative for protein or Aveda Dry Remedy Treatment Masque for moisture.
How often do you trim / use heat? I use heat in the form of a blow dryer every four months or so as of right now. I am on a moisture regimen so I am limiting the use of heat temporarily. I trim on average once a year. My coarser strands do not have splits often and since I haven’t fully straightened my hair since I began my hair journey I have not been concerned with even hair.
What do you love most and least about your hair? I love that its thick, kinky, soft, and voluminous. I dislike how difficult it is to stretch my hair and keep it detangled.
Do you take any supplements or use growth-aides? I take a women’s multivitamin every now and then. How have they helped? I have not noticed a difference in growth.
What has helped you most in achieving and maintaining length? Leaving my hair alone when possible, handling it gently, and making certain to keep it stretched seems to be the best bets for retaining length in my hair.
Name a hair product, accessory or tool you cannot be without? And why? A natural oil. My hair has never felt as soft or been as well behaved before introducing natural oils into my regimen.
Where can we check you out on the web? I can be found on longhaircareforum under username Dodo. I have a Youtube channel but I never upload. Hopefully in the coming year I will be able to change that.
