Your hair is? I am natural 3C/4A
When and why did you start your healthy hair journey? Five years ago, I had the unfortunate experience of an over processed relaxer and a lot of my hair fell out. Fortunately for me, I started out with thick hair, but it was still a devastating nightmare that I have yet to fully recover from. My relaxed hair was healthy before then and stayed between APL-MBL. That one major mishap caused me to question why I was relaxing my hair. I transitioned for nearly 2 years with no additional issues. I just gradually trimmed away my relaxed ends until they were no more. What is your current / goal length? Currently, the longest part of my hair sits at MBL. I’m working towards hip length straight because I don’t straighten that often and I figured as much as my hair shrinks, hip length straight might put me at APL curly.
What is your regimen? I use shampoo before a protein treatment or if I have buildup which is usually 1-2 times per month. I co-wash every 2-4 days in the summer and less often in the winter.
How often do you trim / use heat? I am scissor happy but I am trying not be so much so this year so I can gain some real length. I’ve basically been between BSL and MBL for a couple years do to excessive trimming.
What’s your fave go-to style? Twist-outs are my go-to style. I re-twist every night so my twist-outs gradually morph into a loose wave after about 3 days of re-twisting, but I don’t mind.
What do you love most and least about your hair? I love the health of my hair. My hair and scalp have never been healthier. My battle with dryness is my least favorite part of my hair, but I’m making progress with better products and ensuring I use heat when I deep condition. I was doing overnight DCs for a while and that doesn’t work as well for me as using heat.
Do you take any supplements or use growth-aides? How have they helped? I take Chlorella, Omega 3, 6, and 9, B-12. and D3. I’ve tried some growth aides like Njoy’s Sulphur Oil and the inversion method for the sole purpose of filling in my crown that is still somewhat thin. Inversion worked better for me. Chlorella takes the place of my multi-vitamin, I’m vitamin D deficient so I need the supplement for that.
What has helped you most in achieving and maintaining length? Definitely limiting heat has been a benefit for me, paying attention to my ends, and keeping them moisturized. Also, protein treatments followed by moisturizing dcing.
Name a hair product, accessory or tool you cannot be without? And why? Aloe vera juice/ gel (Moisture), coconut oil (Moisture and Shine), jojoba oil ( Shine and Scalp), and my new staple Silk Dreams: Vanilla Silk deep conditioner. I also keep AO GPB and HSR in my rotation. I love my Hana Elite flat iron ( Gets my hair silky straight).
