Although this was not wash week, I still completed my non-wash week hair regimen to promote healthy hair while relaxer stretching and protective styling under wigs.
1) Remove Plaits – I unravel my plaits on a weekly basis to detangle, de-shed and moisturize/seal. This ensures my hair is free from tangles, mattes and knots, as well as nicely moisturized and sealed.
2) Mist with water / conditioner mix – this step is new for me. In months past, I would use a detangling spray of some kind, usually the Cantu Care for Kids Conditioning Detangler (awesome stuff). Or, I would heavily oil my hair to promote hair slip {to remove shed hair}. Over the past few weeks, I’ve noticed breakage on the rise during manipulation so I altered my process a little this week to see what kind of results I would have. Rather than spraying my hair with a detangler or heavily oiling my hair, I lightly sprayed with a mixture of water and conditioner (Aubrey Organics Honey Suckle Rose). I quickly learned there is a delicate line of how much to mist the hair. Too much and the hair is overly saturated and weak, thus it breaks. Not enough and the hair is dry, lacks pliability and breaks. The sweet spot was damp hair without it being dripping wet.
3) Finger Detangle – once I sprayed with the water and conditioner mix, my hair became very manageable and was easy to separate and finger detangle. I ran in to very few problem knots that needed extra tender loving care. I was a very happy girl! Detangling was a breeze and went faster than normal.
4) Gently comb (if needed) – my new growth was very manageable with the water and conditioner mix. I did have a few broken strands here and there but that’s normal. My breakage, however, was not excessive. Since my hair was manageable, I did not feel the need to run a comb through my hair.
When I got to the end of my session, I did run a comb through one tiny area just to see how would my hair respond and again, things were a total hit! The comb glided through my hair and I suffered no breakage.
5) Moisturize / Seal / Scalp Treat – I moisturized with Bee Mine Deja’s Hair Milk, sealed and scalp massaged with Liquid Gold’s Whipped Java Butter.
Bee Mine Hair Milk – I’ve used the Bee Mine Product line for many, many years and it packs a powerful punch each and every time I revisit the line. I love Bee Mine Hair Milk as a leave-in but never tried it as a moisturizer / weekly refresher. I was very pleased with its performance.
Liquid Gold Whipped Java Butter – I’ve been loving on Komaza so much that I’ve neglected other products that heal, soothe and treat the scalp. Over the past few weeks, I’ve returned to using Liquid Gold Whipped Java Butter. I am committed to sticking with it until it’s all gone. It’s about 80% used so this should be one of my empties real soon. Love the scent and is an excellent sealer.

Without fail, someone always asks if I’m transitioning after each wash day / hair regimen post. Although I’ve not firmed up my decision, I am one step closer perhaps — I have a follow-up hair analysis and phone consult established with Komaza Hair Care to understand my hair’s health since relaxer stretching. Knowing this will help me to firm up my decision (I think).
For me, it’s not about long hair, it’s about healthy hair…

Seriously, Jay. Girl, you are killing me…. SOFTLY…. With each hair regimen post. 39 weeks? Wow! So being a non wash week,do u m&s on top of your detangling mix? How do you ensure your hair’s not too wet and limp? Secondly, the curls in your latest wig are giving me life! Thirdly, how are you liking liquid gold java? Been eyeing it for a while now. Finally, I’m looking forward to your decision afternoon your komaza consultation.
Hiya Ihuchi, 🙂
Yes, I moisturized with Bee Mine Hair Milk & sealed with LG on regi day. During the week, I M&S with Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Spray and avocado oil. I moisturize 2x daily but seal only as needed…usually 2-3 times per week.
Are you talking too wet or limp when I spray it with the water / conditioner mix? It took a few tries to figure out the right number of sprays. As it turns out, I only need to spray my new growth directly. My relaxed hair doesn’t require it….the overspray from my new growth is enough for my relaxed hair. I use 2 sprays on my new growth and as mentioned, the overspray of mist that touches the relaxed hair is enough. I want my hair to feel like a tad damp but not wet (if I was air drying, I’d equate my hair to being about 90% dry). If this wasn’t what you were asking, let me know and I’ll try again.
I like the LG Java Butter. It replaced Hairitage Hydration’s Jar of Joe. I love the smell of coffee. Somewhere in my little brain, I’d like to think it helps shedding but honestly, I can’t tell a difference. So, it’s one of those products that is nice to have but not necessary.
TY re: my wig. It’s my favorite one yet.
More to come on the decision. 🙂
Thanks Jay for replying. Yes,I meant m&s on the same regi day, right after you use your detangling mix, considering your moisturizer is a milk. I guess you answered it- 2 sprays prevents the over-wetness (if that’s a word)/limpness. You’ve found what works for your hair, keep up the good work. Thanks again for replying.
YW! On the same day, I only spritz, add hair milk (or whatever moisturizer I’m using that day) and seal. I guess that’s kinda like the LCO method – liquid, cream, oil.
Yes,it’s kinda like the lco method….You can see i’m not the only one in love with your latest wig! Thanks again for replying.
You’re so welcome; it’s my pleasure. My wig is turning heads at my work and my husband’s work. I’m getting compliments left and right. Lol
After, not afternoon…lol.
Ok, how do manage to look fabulous with all these different wigs, no matter long or short. #SoJealous.
Ah shucks, you’re so sweet. TY!! I rocked short hair for the longest when in high school & college so I’m comfy in short or long. I’m a wig fanatic. Can you tell? It’s giving me so many style options without the hard work of doing my hair own hair, not to mention it doesn’t require the manipulation. I’m totally here for it.
That wig looks good in you. Don’t get me wrong, I like the others but I vote this as the most gorgeous on you.
TY!!! I’m totally cool with all types of feedback and I thank you for sharing. I love this one most also. It resembles hair that I would normally wear. My hubs actually picked this one out. 🙂
I totally aggree with Abena! This curly bob is EVERYTHING on you! And I adore the way that you’re caring for your hair under this protective style! Do you pin down your braids underneath to keep them flat?
Thanks for sharing your #washdayexperience chica!

TY! 🙂 I gather all of the braids/plaits (usually about 10 of them) and do one french braid and tuck the tail within the braid to secure it. No pins needed.
Congrats on reaching 39 weeks post relaxer! That’s amazing. Seems like you’re learning more and more about your hair. The wig looks great on you!!
TY, Sunshyne!
You’re amazing me weekly with how great your stretch is going. Love the wig on you!
TY, Tomi!
All of your wigs are making want to get some of my own. Congratulations on reaching 39 weeks.
Thank you, Leah! 🙂
I am so loving you in the short wigs on you. I won’t dare ask if you are transitioning b/c I know I’ve been stretching a little longer than you. I have no idea how many weeks post I am right now. LOL *hangs head in shame*
You should be around 44 or 45 weeks, give or take. So are you transitioning. *sneaky laugh*
Love it! Looks so pretty on you and I will try your tip with spraying the new growth!
Thank you and let me know how it works
Love love love it! I’m sitting here taking tips on the detangleing process, because you’re a BOSS in this relaxer stretch business!
Lol thank you! You making me feel all good and stuff. 😉
I love this wig. Your regimen is so simple.
