- Do a mid-week baggy to your hair to increase hydration. Baggying simply means to apply a moisturizer to your hair, place a plastic processing cap over on your head, leave it there for a few hours. You will notice the inside of the cap forming moisture droplets. These droplets add additional moisture to your hair. It’s much like steaming your hair, except you’re accomplishing this mid-week vs. wash day. It’s a great way to boost moisture to your hair throughout the week.

How do you soften new growth?

moisture is the key. i stretch my relaxers for three months and find it quite easy now. i do non manipulative styles like curls every week to blend in with my new growth and mid week (the fourth day) i part into four sections with my fingers, take that section while the other three is clipped up and split that into half and remove shedded hair that can possibly cause tangles by running my fingers down the hair. i then part with my fingers and take my water, conditioner and oil mix in my spray bottle and spray the new growth only and part again until i did that section i then gather the hair like a ponytail to make sure all my new growth absorbs the moisture running my hand down the hair to then ends which make the negrowth wet and relaxed hair damp. i then take my comb starting from the ends and work my way up detangling with easy. as long as the new growth is wet and there is no shedded hair to cause tangles it will work. also deep condition each time you wash. some people cowash mid week instead of doing what i just explain and after moisturize and seal and braid it and put a roller in my hair but i don’t cowash mid week so that’s why i mentioned the above. moisturize and seal daily
Hi Bonita, thanks for sharing! You’ve provided excellent tips. What conditioner/oil mix & ratio do you have in your spray bottle? I’m always looking to learn neat tips & tricks.
I use rosewater, aloe, and oil to spritz my new growth 2x a day. My spritz bottle contains 6oz of Rosewater, 1tsp rice bran oil, 5 drops rosemary oil, and aloe. I use the aloe for pH balance. Products work better for my hair if they are at a certain pH. At night I moisturize and seal and then use the spritz to mist my new growth. After I’m done, my new growth is lightly damp and I bun for the night. Next morning, I lightly mist again and bun for work. Doing this leaves my new growth soft throughout the day.
That mix sounds lovely. I can’t do aloe so I would have to use a substitute. Thanks for sharing the deets. I love wheat germ oil. I haven’t had much experience with rice bran.
Hi Mrs Jay
Can u use pure castor oil for your hair ?
