When I first learned about the Komaza Hair Analysis, one of the first things to cross my mind was, is it worth it. I even Googled the question but unfortunately, I didn’t have much luck finding an answer to my question. Therefore, I drug my feet to make a decision because I was skeptical. I finally got to a point where I was tired of struggling with my hair and purchased the hair analysis. This article discusses why the Komaza Hair Analysis was definitely worth the investment.

Benefits of Komaza Hair Analysis
Pre-Poo
Pre-pooing is a must for my hair and is a step that Komaza supports so I didn’t have to make major changes in this area. I love extra virgin coconut oil especially since it’s said to help combat hygral fatigue. I apply it to my hair a day before I’m due to wash to let it penetrate into my strands. I then use the Komaza Pona Hair & Scalp on wash day to exfoliate my scalp and combat shedding.
Shampoo
I always used sulfates before starting my healthy hair journey. I somehow let the hair care community convince me sulfate-free shampoo was better. I’m now back to using sulfate shampoo with Komaza’s recommendation. I was hesitant at first but the change has been good since finding the right shampoo for my hair — Nexxus Therappe. It removes buildup yet it doesn’t strip my hair. Even my deep conditioners are performing better now that I’m no longer dealing with product buildup.
Deep Conditioning
Komaza encouraged me to step away from the steamer and use body heat to avoid over conditioning my hair. Body heat has never really worked great for my hair so I’ve been using dry heat instead. My hair actually responds better to dry heat so I haven’t missed steaming whatsoever. Dry heat allows the product to absorb deep into the strands, thereby making the conditioning sessions far more effective. Product tend to slide off my hair when using moist heat and the overall feel of my hair isn’t as moisturizing when compared to dry heat.
Porosity
After reviewing a second collection of strands, Komaza concluded I’m normal to high porosity. Who knew! Since incorporating sulfate shampoo and protein in my weekly regimen, my hair has never felt better.
Moisture
Now that my hair is holding on to moisture, I’m able to go a few days without moisturizing without running the risk of my hair feeling dry. I must admit, I sometimes fall back in old habits and moisturize daily although Komaza does not recommend. Komaza feels daily moisturizing can lead to over moisturizing of the hair.
Breakage
I’ve dealt with breakage in one form or another for the longest. As it turns out, my hair really does require protein. Increasing protein to include a reconstructor for weekly use and a medium protein treatment as-needed has really paid dividends. I’m no longer dealing with nagging breakage.

How often do you use the sulfate shampoo? I use one every time I shampoo wash, which is once a month.
Sulfate shampoo every time I wash and clarify/chelate once a month.
Wow my low po girl is really a medium high porosity hunny! Lol crazy. I’m so glad your breakage issue is a thing of the past I know how frustrating that was. You’re doing so well with your stretch I wish you could come here and help my mom to get her hair back on track. But I’m researching to try to fix the issues she’s having. I know you’re going to have great results with your follow up can’t wait to hear the good news!
Wow! This analysis changed your regimen completely! It’s cool to have a service like this because it helps take the guessing game out of what we should do for our hair.

TY, Tomi! I’m not ready to say I’m leaving that life because it’s a life I love. I want to see how my analysis go before I make decisions. I’ll keep you all posted! 🙂 And, thanks for loving my hair.
So glad this worked for you, hopefully I will be able to purchase this analysis in the future.
May I ask why do they recommend shampoos with sulfates?
Remove buildup…they believe having buildup from sulfate-free shampoos is worse than the using sulfate shampoo.
Hi Jay. I appreciate you sharing with us your komaza hair analysis and your updated hair practices based on their recommendations. I totally dig not treating relaxed hair like natural hair. That made me tweak my beginner’s regimen with positive results. I have a question however, since they recommend sulphate shampoos, if you work out a lot/sweat on your scalp, how they they advise you clean your scalp between shampoos? I’d really like to know.
Thank you.
Per Komaza, co-washing is fine for mid-week only. I tried that but quickly ditched it. I find, it’s easier for me to just weather through the sweaty head and just wait until wash day. The mid-week manipulation was more damaging than waiting until next wash day. I’m in braids right now since I’m wearing wigs so my scalp is breathing while working out. I’m not sweating in my head nearly as much since the gym is cold. I’d be interested to see how my perspective changes when it warms up and the gym is stuffy.
Thanks for responding Jay. I really appreciate it. It’s true most of us can escape with less frequent washes these colder months. If your perspective changes in warmer months, please keep us posted.
I surely will!
I think my question went poof. But I noticed that the analysis recommended staying away from using a daily moisturizer. What was the reasoning behind that?. You can answer me at the other place if that’s easier.
Hey Girlfriend!!!! They advised against it because it can lead to over moisturization and over moisturized hair leads to cuticle damage. They even advised against weekly hair steaming and baggying of the hair for the same reason.
Oh wow!. That’s interesting. So are they against steaming altogether or just that weekly is too frequently?. I get why baggying hair is problematic.
I’m glad I found your blog. For some rain I had no idea about it.
I’m glad you found me too. I try not to push my blog on others when “over there.” I try to blend in with others. 🙂 They feel weekly is too frequent. They recommended once a month but no more than twice monthly.
Thanks for sharing. I’ve been reading everyone’s feedback and learning from it. Eventually I will send in my own hair for analysis.
You totally should. It was truly the best thing I’ve done. Now that I’m transitioning, I want to do another one. Matter fact, I need to reach out to them and set that up.
