As many of you know, I received the results of my Komaza Hair Analysis late last week. Over the past few days I’ve shared a number of relaxed hair regimen tips as per Komaza Hair Care. While I don’t agree with their initial guidelines, I did incorporate them in Monday’s wash day to see what the outcome would be.
Relaxed Hair Regimen Using Komaza Hair Analysis
Komaza recommended a basic wash routine as per the following:
- Pre-Poo (20 mins with plastic cap; no heat)
- Wash (sulfate shampoo)
- Protein (preferably every week but at least every 2-3 weeks)
- Deep Condition (10-20 minutes with plastic cap; no heat)
- Leave In: use my daily moisturizer and don’t seal
- Style
Pre-Poo
I applied a very light coating of dabur vatika enriched coconut oil to my hair on Saturday night. In an effort to keep the hair as dry as possible, I only wore a scarf to bed.
Note: I normally apply oil, toss on a plastic cap and then my sleep scarf. By morning, the hair is usually damp so I skipped that step. My goal for the next morning was to apply a little more coconut oil and toss on a plastic cap for about 20 minutes for a good pre-poo but I ran out of time.
Wash Day Following Komaza’s Relaxed Hair Regimen
Protein
I protein treated (without heat) for 20 minutes with Aubrey Organics GPB. Komaza recommended using a mild protein weekly. This scares me speechless but I might give it a try for one or two weeks to see what happens. I definitely need to find a milder protein to use – I’m thinking ORS Replenishing Pak.
Shampoo
I was due for a good clarify/chelate session so I used Redken Cleansing Cream. I’m on the fence about using shampoo weekly, whether it’s sulfate or sulfate-free. The only way I see myself using sulfate-free weekly is if I use something gentle like Cream of Nature Argan shampoo. It’s by far the best sulfate-free shampoo for slip and hydration. However, it comes with one challenge: I feel it deposits buildup on my hair. Maybe mid-week co-cleansing will offset this. More to come over the next few weeks.
Deep Condition
I deep conditioned for an hour with Aubrey Organics Honey Suckle Rose, with a plastic cap, without heat and without additives (honey & extra virgin olive oil). It was not my intention to deep condition for an hour but life happened. I will try to keep to 20 minutes next time.
Leave In
Komaza recommended I use a balanced moisturizer and no sealing for my leave-in.
I was a bit nervous to use a moisturizer only so I went against the grain and layered a little. I applied Annabelle’s Perfect Blends LI, topped with Bee Mine Luscious Balanced Cream Moisturizer. I didn’t seal initially. As predicted, my hair was a dry, bushy mess!!! It lacked elasticity and I lost some innocent strands in the fight. I tried to recover by tossing on some Pura Body Naturals MuruMuru Moisture Milk and then sealing with avocado oil. At this point, Honey B. Fly (my hair) was very uncooperative.
I snapped a few pics for your viewing pleasure before wrestling my hair into a bun and there it stayed for most of the night. My hair was so big and fluffy that my husband blurted out – goodness, you have a lot of hair. That, of course, made me feel good, made me laugh and made me forget all about what was starting to feel like a failed wash day.
Conclusion
My hair responds well to the LOC method, thus I will be reintroducing it back into my regimen (for now). I will also continue adding honey and extra virgin olive oil to my conditioners (for now). I’m still undecided on the protein use…more to come. Since I ended up with a Big Bad Bush vs. Soft & Silky, I reached out to Komaza with what felt like 50 questions and they advised me to hold off on moving forward with the recommended regimen until they conclude my porosity. I’m down!!!
Thank You to Komaza Hair Care
Jenn from Komaza have been a super duper trooper throughout all of this. Working with me is not the easiest which I recognize. I am very thorough (or try to be) so I’ve presented a ton of questions to her. She’s been a peach through it all and I totally am appreciative of her willingness to work through this with me. She’s even allowing me to send in a sample of my Big Bad Bush to better understand the dry and coarse strands I deal with post-protein use. Now that’s Excellent Customer Service. Jenn, if you’re reading this — thank you!!
Congratulations on your anniversary! Personally, I thought you were still in college and between 19 – 21 years old! You look great for how ever old you are!!
So far, I am amazed at the difference in how your hair looks post Komaza. What a difference! I like the smooth look because it reminds “me” of a more polished look.
I’m patiently waiting for the “real final” analysis (after Big Bad Bush) diagnosis.
Thank you for being so open and for sharing!
Hi Ruth, I’m way, way older than that but hey, I’ll take it. Lol TY for your support & love. I’ll def post my final analysis.
Happy anniversary to you both! Your hair is looking great after your Komaza regimen!
TY, Lydz…I truly appreciate it.
Wow, 16 years, that just took my breathe away. Congrats and wishing you many more wonderful years together.
Your hair looks great , nice and straight and smooth
Thank you, Tomes!!! We’re middle school sweethearts….ahhhhh! I love that dude.
Happy Anniversary hun I’m glad y’all enjoyed some quality time together!
TY my dear 🙂
Happy anniversary! As a fan of big, fluffy hair I have to say yay for the big hair! Now to the bad part- oh no for the dryness!!! I’m sorry Honey didn’t agree with the recommended regimen 🙁
Do you know which particular proteins your hair hates? Have you considered maybe trying cassia or some strengthening ayurvedics/herbs instead of actual protein treatments? Or maybe something like Babyface Pure Protein where you can add a drop or two (they recommend 1/2-1 capful, you may want to get a dropper to use for your hair) to your own moisturizing conditioners to get a little boost? Or only applying the protein treatment on the really damaged parts she noticed (I think you said it was mostly the last few inches of your ends)?
I hope you’re able to come up with a regimen that Honey agrees with! 🙂
Hi Riley! TY girly. After Komaza and I spoke late yesterday, I applied some APB moisturizer and baggyed, since I released to go back to my old ways for a bit. My hair felt a million times better and is doing a-ok today. Thank Goodness. I am experimenting with proteins. I will likely purchase the Komaza protein in the long run.
If this is a “bad bush” then gggiiirrrrlll my hair must be an atrocious forest! LOL. Congrats on your anniversary! May God continue to bless your union!

TY K! You crack me up.
Happy anniversary!
I would’ve been nervous about trying some of the suggestions because I am usually reluctant to too much change but your hair looks great – it doesn’t look bushy at all to me!
TY so much. I was reluctant and skeptical. I’ve tried to manage and balance these emotions. It hasn’t been easy.
Your hair looks lovely and thick..
Thank you so much
Can’t wait to see your follow-up results!! Your hair looks great. What would you say was the best thing that worked for you?
TY, Bola. The best? Hmmm, that’s a toughie….maybe incorporating mild protein — my hair seemed to break less and hold on to moisture better.
