Your hair is? Texlaxed
When and why did you start your healthy hair journey?
I started my relaxed hair journey originally in Oct 2011 after a major set back from not taking care of my hair and using too much heat. I started doing research and started a hair care regimen. Then I started my self-texlax journey in June 2013 because I wanted texture and thickness and I’ve seen soo much progress in these past 10 months.
What is your current length? What is your goal length?
My last length check was brushing MBL around 4.5 months ago so after dusting my ends a few times I’m probably still around MBL.
My goal length is waist length with full ends.
What is your regimen?
For my washdays I shampoo twice a month (1 clarify, one moisturizing), and cowash in between when needed. On shampoo days, I prepoo for 30 mins at least with products I’m trying to get rid of or just oils, and if I’m feeling fancy ill mix in coconut milk. Then I apply my shampoo directly to my scalp with a big applicator bottle. Then ill towel dry my hair for a little and then apply my deep conditioner and leave it on for an hour at least. (I alternate light protein and moisturizing DC’s). After I rinse out my DC, Ill usually do an ACV rinse (I keep mine in a giant spray bottle for easy application.) Finally after the ACV been on for a few mins ill do a cold rinse.
My cowash days are much simpler. I usually just apply my cowash, rinse, then do an oil rinse followed by an ACV rinse and a cold rinse.
How often do you touch-up / trim / use heat?
I usually touch up every 16+ wks, and I trim every time I touch up and sometimes between trims ill do a dusting if my ends look
rough. I usually allow myself a heat pass every month but I recently started a 6-month no direct heat challenge (only hair dryer on cool)
What’s your fave go-to style?
Usually I stick to braid outs, twist outs, and perm rod sets, but at the same time I’m trying to minimize manipulation during the week so I’m currently looking for a favorite go-to updo… even though ill always love a simple high bun.
What do you love most and least about your hair?
The thing I love the most about my hair is the thickness and volume it has gained over time. The thing I like least about my hair are my 4-5 inches of bone straight relaxed ends that look extra thin next to my crazy thick texlaxed hair, but I’m slowly making my way to thicker ends by dusting them every few months.
Do you take any supplements or use growth-aides? How have they helped?
I have purchased biotin, and hair, skin and nail vitamins but I never take them consistently enough to notice a difference.
What has helped you most in achieving and maintaining length?
I think that my moisturizing (creams and DC’s) and sealing consistency has helped me the moist in maintaining length because I always make sure my hair feels moisturized, especially my ends to prevent them from splitting. ALSO, I think finger detangling has saved me a lot of hair fall, even though it takes up a lot of my time (I only use a wide tooth comb to detangle in the shower with lots of conditioner and running water)
Name a hair product, accessory or tool you cannot be without? And why?
I go through phases of being obsessed with certain tools and products. Right now I would have to say I cant live with out my orange perm rods, they give me awesome defined curls. Product wise I would have to say I cant live without coconut oil, it always makes my textured hair so much more manageable since the start of my journey.
Where can we check you out on the web?
