Your hair is?
It’s natural. I have been natural for almost two years now (my nappiversary is on September 9th)
When and why did you start your healthy hair journey?
I started my healthy hair journey back in 2013 when I decided to go back natural. My hair was relaxed and I was loving it but, I moved to another country and ended up having to use hard water and living in extreme cold weather. My hair just could not cope and started to break!!! My only solution was going back natural, but I have no regrets. I’m loving it !
What is your current length? What is your goal length?*
My hair does what it wants! So I have strands as short as 8 inches and as long as 10/12 inches. My overall goal is mid back/bra length: about 18/20 inches
What is your regimen – wash day, daily, nightly?
I like to keep my regimen simple.
I wash at least once a week (usually twice). I start off with a hot oil treatment(pre poo) then wash using Dudu Osun Back Soap. After I deep condition with a DIY yogurt conditioner and finish up with an ACV (apple cider vinegar) rinse. While hair is still damp I apply oils to my scalp and ends, then I coat my hair with Cantu Shea Butter Leave in conditioning repair cream. And that’s it ! When my hair gets dry throughout the week I would simply spray my hair with water and seal in the moisture with oils.
How often do you trim / use heat?
I trim only when needed. In two years I only trimmed once.
What’s your fave go-to style?
My go-to style is definitely a high bun!! Just because it’s not time consuming lol I would flat twist over night and put it up in a curly bun !
The only time I use heat is when I flat iron! and that will have to be twice a year… really not often uh!
What do you love most and least about your hair?
What I love the least is the dryness!! my hair rejects moisture like crazy, always have to walk with a moisturizer in my bag lol What I love the most is the thickness!! although it’s not long, the thickness makes it look plentiful and I was missing that when my hair was relaxed and thin!
Do you take any supplements or use growth-aides? How have they helped?
Nope! I don’t … I guess working out every now and then, sweating to increase blood flow gets the job done!
What has helped you most in achieving and maintaining length?
I think it’s simply loving my hair no matter what length it is! Some people get so frustrated by either having unrealistic goals (at the end it all goes down to genetics) or comparing themselves to others that they forget that STRESS hinders hair growth! If I archive my goal then it’s fine, if I don’t I’ll still continue taking care and loving my hair! I’m just letting it do it thing.
Name a hair product, accessory or tool you cannot be without? And why?
I cannot do without my wide tooth comb! I know that some “natural gurus” out there are all about finger detangling but, I just can’t! A wide tooth comb, water and olive oil are my life savers! Yeah I know, I’m basic haha
