Have you stepped out of the house with hair looking like perfection to have it quickly ruined by humidity? Yeah girl, I know, beyond frustrating. Vacations seems to be the worst for ruining hairstyles because you’re not quite familiar with the climate so your efforts are truly hit and miss. Wouldn’t it be dope to know what products to use to preserve your hair in humidity! There may be a solution.
ENHANCE YOUR HAIR AND BEAUTY ROUTINE
Cast Beauty is a mobile app to help women look so fresh and so clean at all times. The app provides real time product recommendations for hair and skin based on local weather conditions. Sounds promising, right?
CAST BEAUTY APP INSTALL
I installed Cast Beauty on my Android Phone but it never loaded up after install. The progress indicator kept spinning and spinning. After multiple uninstalls and reinstalls, I had an a-ha moment. The location feature must be enabled for the app to work.
CONNECT CAST BEAUTY APP TO AMAZON
In the image above, you will notice the words, “Register with Amazon.” The app requires an Amazon account to work which is good and bad. I have Amazon Prime so trust and believe, I’m an Amazon Queen BUT this aspect of the app is a drawback. More to come on that a little later.
Once the app was connected with my Amazon account, I then answered a few profile questions and set my location.
Location is tracked two different ways. It pulls automatically from the location of your phone and you can manually enter locations of interest. This is very helpful if you’re traveling from one location (example: Miami) to another (example: New York) and would like to know what products to use for both climates.
GENERAL INFORMATION
The app has a section for general information. There you can find and edit your profile, add and remove locations plus more.
PRODUCT RECOMMENDATIONS
The app provides recommendations both in-app and via push notifications. In-app recommendations are product based. Push notifications are tips on hair and beauty which I’ve enjoyed reading those thus far.
A few times when looking for in-app recommendations, I received the following message: “We are sorry, there are no products available this time for your selection for skin and hair products.” Isn’t that weird? Seems to me, the app would have recommendations at all times.
Another time the app recommended Brazilian Hair Extensions. This was one of the few times where the app seemed to provide a recommendation without any regard to weather. More on this in a little later.
Remember I said forcing the app to work with Amazon is a drawback? Let’s talk about that for a moment.
I’ve played around with the app for about a week and the app has yet to recommend a product that we love within the healthy hair community. I reached out to the company to inquire about their intent on expanding product recommendations. Below is my question and Cast Beauty’s response.
QUESTION:
“The app has offered up hair products like Just for Me. While I’m sure that’s a great brand, it’s not one that I’ve used before and it’s not one that many hair enthusiasts rave about. Well to be honest, I’ve never heard or seen anyone say they love Just for Me although I’m sure some do. Will the product offerings be expanded to products that are trending in the hair community? Or, is the app limited to products only available on Amazon?”
RESPONSE:
“The scenario that Jay presented makes sense and is a use case that we anticipated. The app is also meant to introduce new brands that a user hasn’t tried before. Currently, because we are using the Amazon API the products are limited to Amazon for now. This makes it easier for fulfillment and offers users the ease of ordering products that they like. We also have included logic that only shows the highest rated Amazon products. However, as we move to partner with other product lines, we will also add products that are trending as well.”
Based on Cast Beauty’s response, the Brazilian Hair recommendation now makes sense.
If you’re not in the market for new products much like me, a good use for this app is to compare the recommended product to what you have on hand and use what’s in your stash instead. You’re not only saving money but this forces you to shop your stash to use up product. In addition, you’re using a product best suited for the current weather conditions. Triple Win!

Overall, I applaud the creator for her vision.
“Cast gives women power over the elements by providing personalized advice on what to use on their hair and skin in various weather conditions. It is the perfect blend of science, technology and everyday life.”

I consider the Cast Beauty App promising. If you know anything about technology, most things are not perfect when they first launch so let’s not count Cast Beauty out just yet. I think with a few software updates, they will be on point and moving in the right direction.
Please report back and share your thoughts if you give it a try.
This seems like a handy app to have for the future. Btw I love the new theme and layout
