Dealing with frizz in natural hair is a constant battle. But given that I live in a hot, humid climate, I’m pretty sure some level of frizz in inevitable. Even with knowing that, I still find myself looking for the next best thing to calm frizz. Oils are not effective at reducing frizz in my natural hair so I’ve been playing around with different serums. The newest I’ve tried is Advanced Haircare – Extraordinary Lustrous Oil Serum by L’Oréal.
L’Oréal Paris Extraordinary Oil offer deep nourishment without weighing down your hair. It’s great for dry, lifeless hair. It eliminates dryness and offers instant shine with a silky touch. Includes an Oil Complex of Coconut, Argan, Chamomile, Amla, Soja, and Sunflower. >>Ingredients<<
L’ORÉAL PARIS EXTRAORDINARY OIL
I am a member of Influenster, an online community of social savvy shoppers that test and review products. With this campaign, I received the L’Oréal Paris Extraordinary Oil set. It came with shampoo, conditioner, oil in cream treatment and serum as shown below. I have not used the entire set and do not plan to at this point – more on that in a few. I did, however, use the serum as it was the easiest to incorporate without much effort.
USING SERUM TO REDUCE FRIZZ IN NATURAL HAIR
Just like all serums, it feels silky and glides on the hair with ease. It has a hint of vanilla and maybe even a hint of musk in its fragrance that goes away instantly. Although I’m generally not a fan of vanilla, I love musk everything. Therefore, I wish the fragrance was a bit more lasting.
Once applying this serum to my hair, the comb glided through a tad bit easier and I had a boost in shine. The one benefit that I noticed most was its ability to reduce frizz in natural hair. It’s not the best serum I’ve tried but it did pretty good for a humid, rainy day.
BE SURE TO READ INGREDIENTS!
One thing I didn’t notice before using this serum is that it contains Amla. My scalp has a hit and miss relationship with Amla, thus I try not to use products with it in its ingredients. This is the second time in a few months that I mistakenly used a product with Amla. I need to pay attention to ingredients a little closer since Amla is starting to show up everywhere. I was lucky this time as my scalp didn’t have any issues but that wasn’t the case a few weeks ago that I will share in a separate post. Therefore, I will not be using these products for the safety of my scalp. That’s a bummer because my hair loves Argan and coconut oil.
USING SERUM TO REDUCE FRIZZ IN RELAXED HAIR
In my relaxed hair days, I also used serum to reduce frizz and increase shine, especially when wearing roller sets or flexi rods. Serum offers a level of shine that oils just can’t rival. To me, there is no comparison. Therefore, if you’re dealing with dull looking hair, try using serum. You just might like the results!
SILICONE BASED PRODUCTS
When using silicone based products, you really need to make sure you’re using a shampoo with sulfates on a periodic basis to remove any product buildup that is causes.
