Today’s feature is KBADD and she has relaxed hair.
When/why did you start your healthy hair journey (HHJ)?
What is your current length? What is your goal length?
Current length is between shoulder blades, but my ultimate and final goal is mid-back
What is your regimen – wash day, daily, nightly?
I wash and deep condition (DC) every Saturday and I alternate between moisture and protein regimens.
I detangle (Mane’n’Tail), moisturize (Shea Moisture Hibiscus and Coconut Hair Milk) and seal (Godrej Vatika Coconut Oil) while hair is still wet/damp. Then bun it up.
I co-wash every Wednesday morning in the shower. I detangle, moisturize and seal while my hair is still damp/wet and I then bun it up.
I use GODREJ NUPUR Henna http://www.godrejnupur.com/ every month (2nd Friday of each month). I apply at bedtime, then wake up and proceed with my Saturday DC moisturizing routine — detangle, moisturize, and seal while still damp/wet and then bun it up.
3x’s per week I apply N-JOY’s hair concoction, and massage before bedtime.
How often do you touch-up / trim / use heat?
I touch up my relaxer 3 times per year – every 4 months
I try to trim at least once per year, but mostly only when needed. Additionally, I use the Split-Ender a few times a year to keep any splits under control and for “dusting” my ends.
I use heat/hooded dryer for deep conditioning.
What’s your fave go-to style?
You’ll notice that all I do is “bun it up”…LOL!. I workout 5-days per week and bunning is a life-saver.
What do you love most and least about your relaxed hair?
What I love LEAST is the whole “puffiness” that goes on when I’m deep into my 4 month stretch. Since I don’t use heat, it’s really hard to keep the puff down.
What I love MOST is the sheer versatility of my hair. If I want a more “natural” look, I can go ahead and do a braid out, twist out, or bantu-knot out. When I want a more straight look, I can flat iron. When I want curlier, I can throw some rods in it. Absolute versatility!!!
Do you take any supplements or use growth-aides? How have they helped?
I took Hairfinity faithfully, and religiously for the entire year 2012, and the first 6 months of 2013. I do feel that it helped me get my hair’s thickness back again. My hair growth seems to be in cycles, sometimes I get length, sometimes I get thickness.
What has helped you most in achieving and maintaining length?
I have learned to be very patient with my hair. I treat my tresses like fine silk and not to rip thru my hair with small toothed combs. Sometimes if I’m not careful, I get tangles. I simply take utmost care to detangle knots one strand at a time, for as long as it takes.
If I’m in a rush, then that is NOT the time to be doing my hair, since she requires the utmost attention and patience.
Also, being consistent in my routine helps. I know that results don’t happen overnight, so I need to allow time – sometimes even up to 6 months – to see changes.
I’m a slow grower and easily discouraged when I don’t get the “miracle 6 inches in 6 minutes!!!” results. So, I’ve learned to be very realistic and temper my expectations. Now I am pleased with whatever results I DO get!!
Name a hair product, accessory or tool you cannot be without? And why?
S-Curl mixed with Jojoba oil!! This is my life-saver when my hair need extra moisture or when I want to baggy or when I’m deep in that stretch and those thirsty roots start crying out. I have a spritz bottle with about 8 oz S-Curl, and 2 oz Jojoba Oil. Mmmmm…..the best thing on earth!!
This is me in May 2008! The start of my HHJ!! Note: I cut all those see-thru ends off!
