Stop with the time consuming relaxed hair regimen! It’s time for a change.
The Problem
That opening statement was for me! I’m tired of spending full days on my hair. Many days, I could have completed a shift at work quicker than it took me to do my hair. No more! My new regimen is simple. It includes a pre-shampoo treatment, a sulfate shampoo cleanse, a deep conditioning session, leave in conditioner and hair sealant.
Pre-Shampoo Treatment
A pre-shampoo treatment is generally done with conditioner or oil. Both work great and offer benefits. Conditioner softens the hair and oil protects the hair against hygral fatigue. However, both counter effects of sulfate shampoo.
Product Recommendation: Mane ‘n Tail Detangler

Sulfate Shampoo & Hydrating Deep Conditioner
Many are against sulfate shampoo and I once was too. However, using sulfate shampoo on a weekly basis keeps my hair free from product buildup and my deep conditioners can properly hydrate my hair.
Product Recommendation: Nexxus Therappe and Humectress Combo Pack
Leave In Conditioner & Sealant
The final step of a relaxed hair regimen is leave in conditioner and hair sealant. Some leave in conditioners offer moisture whereas others strengthen. I prefer moisture based leave in conditioners to further increase hydration.
Hair sealants can be a liquid oil or hair butter. Oils are lightweight and won’t weigh down the hair with a light application. Butters are heavier and helps hair hold on to moisture longer. There’s no right or wrong, it’s about preference and hair needs. My favorite sealant is avocado because it hydrates, penetrates and nourishes.
This is very timely. I was just contemplating doing my pre poo the night before, to cut down on time spent. But I will graciously have to skip the plastic cap- I am an ex Jerri Curl offender. I hate the feel of a plastic cap. I have to grin and bear it for my DC and 2 hour-same day pre poo…..but OVERNIGHT?!!!…. I would just die. Besides, I perspire A LOT from my scalp and I think that I am at the beginning stages of nightly hot flasher….I would be a drenced mess with anything plastic on my head. Great Post.
Sorry- I mean hot flash and drenched…typing too fast.
Great post, I too have been feeling like Wash Day is such a long chore. Thanks for reminding me about overnight pre-poo, I’ve tried it once and I like it because when I wake up in the morning I can get right to the nitty-gritty of Wash Day.
Great post! Can you explain Hygral Fatigue?

The only wash days that are long for me re protein wash day (hopping in the shower 3 times) but other than that I prob spend 3-4 hours including airdrying time.
Wash days use to be the same way for me. Prepooing and detangling with oil has been my saving grace. OFF TOPIC: Your blog looks fantastic chica!
Thank you En! Prepoo & detangling have made a difference.
I’m so over the in/out the shower thing but some days it’s a must. 3-4 isn’t bad. I pretty much stop counting once I throw in the ponies for air drying. My work is done at that point.
I will do – give me a few but I promise I will get something put together on this & hair/scalp massage. Hope that’s ok.
Oh yes, I love getting down with the real deal from the jump on wash day. I’m fresh & ready to take on the session vs. worn down by pre-poo, detangling etc.
No worries!
Ah com’mon, the plastic isn’t that bad. lol It takes some getting use to if I may be honest. I sweat (no cute word for it) a lot as well. SN: My dr says sweating is healthy! Thanks Mande!
