I am a DIYer for almost all things except relaxer touch-ups and trims. I do, however, dust my hair at home with using my Split Ender Maxi Trimmer. The difference in trimming and dusting is the amount of hair that is taken off the ends with trimming taking off more out of the two options.
Split Ender Maxi
The Split Ender Maxi is designed to trim the ends while preserving the length. In the healthy hair community, we call this dusting.
Dusting Does Not Alter Length
When dusting, you are taking off thin ends that serve no purpose to the overall appearance of the hair. The end result is healthy ends and length retention.
Split Ender Maxi Tutorial
I did not do a before and after measurement. However, the Split Ender Maxi removes such negligible amount of hair that you truly will not miss it. The website suggests it trims somewhere between 1/8″ to 1/4″. That is equivalent to being pure dust as the term would suggest – dusting.
You can increase the amount of hair that is removed by running the Split Ender Maxi across the same section of hair multiple times. I use no more than two passes on each section and I always use the same amount of passes on my entire head.
