Hello everyone, this post is just a quick medical update about our fight against stomach cancer and to introduce you to Alexandria’s Authentically Made Jewelry, a faith based jewelry company.
Stomach Cancer Update
As you know, my family has been through some really hard times over the past ten months. My husband’s stomach cancer, that he previously had in 2008, returned last year. This time, however, things were much complicated than before as he was diagnosed as having Stage IV cancer.
We’ve been traveling from Florida to Texas every two weeks for cancer treatment since August 2016. My husband has been through countless surgeries, almost 20 rounds of chemo, two weeks of radiation, blood clot in his leg, has lost an extreme amount of weight and has since been deemed permanently disabled and is no longer able to work as a firefighter. Oh by the way, he’s only 40 so that’s a lot to process for such a young man.
Praying for Better Days Ahead
Cancer treatment really does a number on the body. I can count on one hand the number of good days he’s had since the onset of cancer. Most days he feels extremely worn down. Then there are the awful side effects of the cancer itself, not to mention the cancer treatment. Some days he cannot complete a conversation or a text message without falling asleep. He has not driven in months and cannot lift anything greater than 20lbs.
Time is Limited
I’ve been taking care of the household, caring for him, coordinating with doctors, family/friends, social security, etc. It goes without saying, I haven’t had much time to blog or create YouTube videos. We’ve done our best to just survive from day to day. There are days when we feel like we’re drowning. This has been the hardest thing we’ve encountered. I cannot describe the level of hurt and exhaustion we feel.
On our last treatment update a few weeks ago, we were told his body is healing and improving – Praise God!
Make no mistake about it, we’re still very much in the fight and have a ways to go. Because the cancer has affected so many areas of his body, he is in discomfort daily. We’ve yet to have a night where we get uninterrupted sleep. In fact, we’ve not had good rest since July of last year. Without fail, we’re up several times a night for one reason or another. Some coworkers and friends have commented that I look tired and worn down – you think?
He was taken off chemotherapy administered by I.V. and placed on oral chemotherapy. The side effects are the same but at least he can now take pills vs. having it done intravenously.
He’s been through so much. However, by the grace of God, he’s still here and able to fight and for that, we’re more than thankful. My husband’s body is doing things that some doctors said it would never do – heal and improve. Therefore, we know it has been the power of prayer that has made all the difference and will continue to make a difference. We look forward to the day when this will be behind us.
Alexandria’s Authentically Made (Faith Based Jewelry Company)
Through it all, we’ve stayed faithful to the word of God and we continue to trust in complete healing. A big thank you goes out to Alexandria’s Authentically Made for blessing me with this awesome cuff that reads – Faith, Strength, Courage. I was able to customize my cuff and chose these words because it takes these three things (and so much more) to fight cancer.
