If you are looking for an awesome conditioner that offers excellent slip for showering detangling, look no further. Try Tresemme Naturals Moisturizing Conditioner!
— Tresemme Naturals Moisturizing Conditioner Review —
I tried shower detangling many, many times before without success. The conditioners I used in the past lacked slip so breakage was the obvious result. I eventually stopped trying to shower detangle as it was not beneficial for my hair.
I eventually would hear about and try the curly girls conditioner of choice, Tresemme Naturals Moisturizing Conditioner (black label). I became an overnight fan. It truly was love at first use. It offers the absolute best slip of any conditioner that I have used to date. When I say slip, I mean super duper slip. I am talking the kind of slip that make you run fingers through your hair and question, can this be real? You then pinch yourself and only then conclude, YES! This is real. The cherry on top is that my hair was moisturized and hydrated!
Shortly after falling in love with Tresemme Naturals Moisturizing Conditioner (black label), a thread popped up on one of the hair forums I frequent that announced Tresemme went back to its original formula and repacked the bottle with a white label. I was excited because many loved the original formula. I was not on a healthy hair journey back then so I never got a chance to use it. Finally, the time had come when I can check out the formula that many raved about.

— How Do The Two Compare? —
I rushed to Walmart and grabbed several bottles of the revised formula of Tresemme Naturals Moisturizing Conditioner (white label). If the current formula (black label) was delicious, then the revised formula (white label) had to be superb-a-licous, right? WRONG.
The Tresemme Naturals Moisturizing Conditioner (white label) did not have great slip and my hair felt low on hydration. When it was all said and done, my hair turned out nice so it was not a complete miss but it was definitely not a hit either. Therefore, I will be looking for a replacement for shower detangling once I run out of Tresemme Naturals Moisturizing Conditioner (black label).
[Update] I have found a replacement for shower detangling – Aussie Moist Conditioner. Good slip and hydration.
Which formula do you prefer?
I stocked up the old formula. Just like the other poster I don’t have any desire to try the one they just put out and I do not feel like finding another cowash conditioner.
I will be doing the same! Yes, indeed.
I tried that conditioner once but I am not sure which version I tried. I wasn’t impressed, now I want to go out and try both! Thanks for the review. So the black is being discontinued then!?
Black label is being discontinued 🙁
Thanks for posting this. I got 5 bottles of the old formula cause I didn’t want to try the new formula. Good to know it’s moisturizing cause I still see it everywhere I shop.
I will be loading up on the black label, that’s for sure!
I love love love the old formula. I tried the new one (black label) and my hair did not like it very much. So, of course, I was very elated when they went back to the old. I think my hair has something against Disodium EDTA on a weekly basis.
Have you tried the white label yet? Is it really the exact same formula and performance as the original formula?
Yes, I tried the white label. It performed the same as the original, and I am pretty sure those are the same ingredients. I want to request that you do a piece on Disodium EDTA. I know that it is the main ingredient for chelating. But I wonder what the effects are when they place it in conditioners. Everytime I use a conditioner with this, my hair does not act right. Mande30
Thanks Mande! I will do. I have several requests lined up that I’m organizing to publish. I will put this one in rotation.
I like the black label. I never got the chance to use the “old” new formula but I guess the consumers were complaining about the ingredients being changed and decided to go with the original formula…kudos for the company for listening. Hopefully the “old” new formula works for me as well.
Great point — a company finally listened. I will stock up on the black label before it’s too late because that’s some awesome stuff.
…I just wondered how in the world they thought they could get away with using ingredients like DMDM Hydantoin, Methylchloroisothazolinone, etc in what was supposed to be a more natural product. Its called TRESemme NATURALS for a reason.
Normally they save that mess for their regular conditioner lines, not the ‘Natural’ ones.
I’m glad people complained and I’m glad they finally listened. If the two conditioners work similarly, they should have left the option for people to buy the more ‘Natural’ version. Some of us are trying to cut back or almost eliminate the harsher ingredients from our regimens.
Tresemme Naturals (original formula) makes a great leave-in and a good cowash. Its just ‘ok’ as a rinse out. But honestly, I have no probs leaving a product like that in my hair to help condition because the ingredients (of the old formula) were better than some of the store-bought leave-in conditioners I’ve tried.

Hi Curlytea, companies are always changing up things when they should just leave things alone. My hair liked the black label though. 🙂 The white label has taken over and the black label is very hard to find these days.

I tried the black label conditioner and my hair snarled like crazy. It’s dry and will never stay moisturized anymore. I love the white conditioner. I prefer it waaay more than the black. Unfortunately stores near me are starting to stock up on the black label conditioner and eliminate the white one. :C My hair has never felt so sticky and dry before with Tresemme.
Hi AMD, I’m so sorry to hear that. are you able to clarify your hair to remove all traces of the black label? Stores near me are stocking up on the white label since the white label is the newer one.

The old formula is actually a white label with a white top… If it has a white label with a black top it is the new formula…If it has the black label and black pump top it is the old formula in new packaging. They went back to the old formula but repackaged it… They changed it back this summer…
TY for the tip…I’ll definitely keep this in mind.
Thanks for this post, Jay! I was thinking about going back to using TREsemme Naturals. I read mixed reviews about it on amazon. Thanks for making everything so clear. Kisses!
Kisses!!! YW and thank you for swinging by.
Hi, the white formula that you have here actually isn’t the original either. The TRUE original tresemme naturals had both a white label AND white cap and had different ingredients. Tresemme was taken over by unliver about two years ago and the naturals formula has been changed several times. The “new” permanent naturals looks just like the first bottle except it has a black cap and label. This was a good review, but I just wanted to put it out there that there were about 3 or 4 different formulas and not every region got the ones in between. Hope this helps clear things up. Once again, great, and thorough review.
Hi Betty, thanks for that history. I think I’ve since come to know that but didn’t recall all the deets so thanks again for that info. What’s your thoughts on the effectiveness throughout all the formula changes? Has the changes been improvements? The slip on this conditioner is boss!

Found Tresemme Naturals Conditoner
Did you buy it? I’ve moved on to Paul Mitchell products. Love them.
I haven’t used Tresemme Naturals in a very long time. Did they ever go back to a good formula?
