Final wash day before touch up – YES!!! I normally do a protein treatment on touch up week but I did a protein treatment recently so I didn’t do one this wash day. I was a bit pressed for time since we went out of town to visit with family for 4th of July. Therefore, I cut some corners so I’m hoping this does not come back to haunt me once I arrive to the salon later this week.
(a) I did a pre-poo with a blend of vatika frosting and wheat germ oil. I added wheat germ oil in an effort to honor the 30 days of ceramides challenge/commitment that Jen of Just Grow Already & I have going.
(b) My hair was super dry and thirsty from days of sun exposure so I skipped tea rinsing and everything in between. I hopped in the shower and co-washed with Tresemme Naturals Moisturizing Conditioner in an effort to create slip & detangle my hair. In-shower detangling at the beginning of wash day (before properly detangling) is not ideal since my hair is prone to tangling BUT my hair needed major hydration and detangling help. This actually worked out great, surprisingly. Tresemme is full of slip and my hair was fully detangled in no time. Ya know, I just might do this more often. I don’t want to push my luck so I won’t do it every wash day but here and there can’t hurt (or so I hope it won’t).
(c) I co-cleansed with HairVeda Amala Cream and deep conditioned with Aubrey Organics Honey Suckle Rose. I used my normal leave ins: coconut oil, Pura Body Moisture Milk & Pureology 21 Benefits.
(d) I was undecided what to do with my hair. I wasn’t feeling flexi rods or roller setting but I knew air drying was a no. I decided on flexis, of course! Oh, let me point out my newest struggle that kind of showed up at 8 weeks post — now that I have a good amount of new growth present, I’m dealing with more tangles and having to be gentler. All of this is causing me to move slower, thus my hair is drying out before I’m done rolling. What a pain because my best sets are done on wet hair. I will be looking for alternative drying techniques for when new growth is present.
My hair could be a little more moisturized but oh well. The slight dryness comes from when my hair dries out before I’m done rolling it, leaving me having to drench it with a spray bottle.
(e) This new growth is kicking so I will lightly run the flat iron through it a few days before touch up just to knock out a tad bit of kink. I won’t be flat ironing for straight results but just enough to remove any sheds and make sure my hair is manageable for the stylist.
