This wash day was done as I was entering 11 weeks post. It was a little different because I typically relax at 10 weeks post. My last wash day was a little eventful — didn’t get around to blogging about it but just trust me. Therefore, I was nervous that 11 weeks post would be even worse.
Products Used:
Pre-Proo: I started this wash by pre-pooing with Dabur Vatika Coconut Oil. I love pre-pooing with coconut oil as it helps combat hygral fatigue. I typically wash in braids or twists. This time I opted for 8 braids. I secured the ends with tiny black rubber bands.
Cleanse: I cleansed with my lovely HairVeda Amala Cream Rinse. I apply cleansers to my scalp only by using an applicator tip bottle. I allow the runoff from rinsing to cleanse the length of my hair.
Smooth the Cuticles: My hair tangles severely so I’ve been researching ways to keep tangles to a minimum. Research suggests it is best to use a lower pH product prior to deep conditioning to allow cuticles to lay flat to better accept the moisturizing benefits of the deep conditioner. I used HairVeda’s pH balancing rinse for this step. (pictured in the blue spray bottle)
Shower Detangling:
1 cup TRESemme Naturals Nourishing Moisture Conditioner
1 cup V05 Strawberries & Cream Conditioner
4 tbsp slippery elm / marshmallow root tea
1 tbsp extra virgin avocado oil
1 tbsp extra virgin coconut oil
I removed the braids from each section. I then applied the detangling mix and finger detangled as best as I could. I then ran the comb through my hair as I rinsed with warm water. My hair detangled with ease. I could hardly believe it. I’ve tried wet detangling in the past with zero success. Adding tea for slip was the missing link.
Deep Conditioning: I applied Aubrey Organics Honey Suckle Rose to each section and then re-braided the hair. I steamed for 30 minutes and allowed the conditioner to stay in my hair for an additional 30 minutes.
Rinse: I removed the braids before rinsing with lukewarm water. I ran the comb through my hair one more time while rinsing the conditioner from my hair. My hair was still nicely detangled — wow, wow, wow!
Leave Ins: I squeezed excess water from my hair with Dabur Vatika coconut oil soaked hands. I then applied Pura Body MuruMuru Moisture Milk and banded my hair.
Summary: I still need to work on relaxer stretching breakage but it went much, much better than last week. I had no tangles to speak off. My hair was nice and smooth. This is by far one of the best, if not THE best, wash day I’ve had with regards to tangles.
her mix sounds awesome. glad it worked for u! ru gonna stretch longer now?
I will likely stretch beyond Thanksgiving at this point, even if I don’t want too. The holiday is fast approaching and I don’t want to get caught up in the holiday salon crowd.
Glad it worked for you Diva. Stuff truly is nothing short of awesomesauce. And why did I lick my lips looking at you product selection lol. I got a problem hahaha.

Yippeee….
Girl I swear by shower detangling. I just seal my deep conditioner with regular conditioner and then detangle with the shower stream. Nothing works better. I lovveee it!

That’s great info to hear. I’ve tried it before but it just didn’t go right. I’m so glad EnExit suggested adding tea. That worked like a champ. What conditioners do you use?
Im glad thats it working out for you! Once you try it, it starts to get easier.

I just need to get a feel for what level of breakage is normal for a stretch. My hair snaps and breaks even when not stretching. I’m not of the fortunate that gets zero breakage.
