For the past two weeks, I’ve experienced increased breakage on wash day only for some unknown reason. I did a light protein treatment this wash day since I’m 6 weeks post. I figured it was time.
1) Overnight prepoo with KeraVada Hibiscus Oil
2) Protein treatment for 2 minutes on dry hair with Aubrey Organics GPB
Note: I follow protein treatments as written since I’m protein sensitive. The directions read as follows: Shake well before using. After shampooing, apply to damp hair and work through, concentrating on the ends. Leave on for 1 to 2 minutes, then rinse. For deep conditioning: Apply to dry hair and distribute from scalp to ends. Leave on for 15 minutes, then shampoo and condition hair as usual.
Wash Day Goodies
3) Cleansed with HairVeda Amala Cream Rinse
4) Oil Rinsed with Wheat Germ / Sally’s GVP Conditioning Balm
5) Conditioned with Marie Dean’s Peach Honey Syrup Conditioner
This was my first time using this conditioner. Smells great. Extremely thick. My hair felt great upon rinsing.
6) Applied Leave Ins with the LOCB method
Water from rinsing conditioner (L)
Dabur Vatika (O)
The Pomade Shop LinoMoist (C) — first time using as a leave in
My Honey Child Type 4 (B)
7) Air dried
Wash Day Assessment
This wash day was not a grand slam but it was a strikeout either. It’s one of those days where things could have gone better but on the flip, it could have gone a lot worse. My hair feels soft to the touch but it’s not well moisturized. I shall not complain too much. 🙄
I am really enjoying this tangle free hair streak I have going. 6 weeks post and I’ve yet to have a detangling session that is overwhelming 😎 I’m enjoying this moment to the fullest.
From time to time, I find myself making newbie mistakes and yesterday was definitely one of them. A few likely reasons why my hair is a bit dry:
1) I didn’t band my hair.
My wash day started late in the night which was mistake #1. Rushing leads to mistakes. That’s a fact, jack! By the time I was done washing, it was in the wee hours of the morning and I didn’t want to go to bed with bands on my hair, thus I didn’t band – mistake #2. Banding keeps my hair smooth, sleek and frizz free.
2) Product enthusiasm clouded judgement.
Keeping to a defined regi on protein treatment days just ensures there are not issues or setbacks. Therefore, I should have kept with product staples on a protein treatment day vs. trying new products.
3) Sampled two new products on a protein treatment day.
I was asking for trouble! Protein by itself is risky with this finicky hair of mine. Toss in one, not to mention, two new products on the same wash day — let’s all scream, what were you thinking?
I’ve tried The Pomade Shop LinoMoist as a daily moisturizer but never as as leave in. I failed to consider the possibilities it may/may not work well as a leave in. It was my first time using Marie Dean’s Peach Honey Syrup altogether so I had no idea how it would perform.
All and all, this wash day was ok but my hair definitely lacks the lovely hydration I’ve been rocking these past couple of weeks. I will baggy like crazy over the next few days to replenish moisture and get this Diva back on track!
