What is Relaxed Thairapy
The name was created with the thought in mind that hair can be relaxing and therapeutic, hence the name Relaxed Thairapy. However, this blog is dedicated to hair, health and beauty and is open to any hair type or texture looking for healthy hair care techniques, practices and discussion. [Edited: Relaxed Thairapy has been rebranded to A Day By Jay]
Who is Divachyk
This alter ego was born when I became licensed to ride a motorcyle. I’m a proud owner and operator of a Honda CBR 600 sports bike. I personally came up with the name Divachyk because I thought it was very fitting — Divachyk could be a name or a brand and simply summarizes all things fabulous – life, health and beauty.
Now doesn’t this just scream Divachyk?
I’m new to blogging but not new to hair. I’ve been on my healthy hair journey since 2010 where I started somewhere around arm pit length.
Currently, I’m relaxed, middle back length with a few strands grazing waist length. Like most, I spent many years under the complete care of a professional stylist and was salon dependent for everything. When I say everything, I mean everything — a simple wash and flat iron included. I would visit the salon, at a minimum, once every two weeks. That is, until one day out of nowhere, I was forced to learn about hair after my husband was diagnosed with cancer (praises to God he’s healed). I simply did not have time and/or money to enjoy the salon experience. My hair started breaking from life stress and neglect — that was the turning point. I googled hair topics and came across many articles, forums, products and recommendations. I quickly fell in love with all things hair — that was almost 4 years ago.
I’ve had some ups and downs on this hair journey but overall, I feel it’s been a great success. I really want to have an avenue and platform to inspire others. Therefore, I like to say I’m a hair enthusiast turned blogger.
I’m an active member of several hair forums – Long Hair Care Forum, Hairlista and Just Grow Already to name a few. I was named Long Hair Care Forum Feature of the Month in February 2012. Making feature is a huge accomplishment (in my opinion) and a tremendous honor as all features are hand selected by the forum owner. That’s a big deal!
I have very vague memories of being natural and getting a press & comb on special holidays. However, I vividly recall the grease burning and popping which made me squirm in my seat. Flashbacks!
My next step after being natural was a Jheri Curl. 🙂 I kept that for many years until I convinced mom to allow me to get a relaxer. I’ve been relaxed ever since, well over 20 years.
I’m a self-proclaimed product junkie that enjoys trying a variety of products. However, my hair doesn’t always give me a pass to try out as many things as I would like because I am low porosity and protein sensitive. Over the years I’ve struggled to find products & techniques that work but I think I have this hair thing almost figured out.
